This is my first effort at birding. I was so excited to photograph eagles today that I didn't sleep last night. After a frustrating morning never finding the right spot at the right time, this adult eagle was nice enough to pose in improving light for half an hour. I'll post a series of in-flight photos after this.
Camera Nerdery: I rented a 300 f/2.8 and used a 1.4x teleconverter on a 1D MkIII. I can definitely see how a longer lens and more resolution would have helped, though I can't fault the speed or sharpness of Canon's 300 L (it's amazing). It's difficult to get the post-process sharpening right with birds; if you're an old-hand, drop me some hints!
